LUMOS NANO: Portable Projector Review

July 21, 2022

I’m sure Singaporeans have heard of LUMOS and their iconic smart home cinema projector, but did y’all know they just launched a mini portable projector too? Aptly named LUMOS NANO, the portable projector doubles up as a bluetooth speaker and comes built-in with Netflix and YouTube!

Ever since LUMOS contacted me about their new release, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the arrival of LUMOS NANO so I could test it out when I travel.

I don’t know if anyone faces the same problem as me – whenever I travel or go on staycations, TVs never seem to be compatible with my phone or laptop. Until today, I have never successfully connected my devices to the screen before, and always resort to watching movies on my laptop despite having a bigger screen staring blankly back at me in the background.

Given how portable the LUMOS NANO is (10cm tall and weighing less than 400g), I’ll definitely bring it with me every trip from today on and never worry about those pesky TVs misbehaving again.

I love using LUMOS NANO to project on the ceiling, so we don't have to strain our necks when watching a movie.

As you can tell, Netflix and YouTube – possibly the two most used apps – are already pre-installed for you so even the worst tech noob shouldn’t be fumbling around. Yes, I’m looking at myself 😬

If you wish to project beyond your ceiling, or if you simply have a massive room, you’ll be glad to know that LUMOS NANO can project up to 100 inches 😱 That’s pretty insane!

If you noticed, the colours from LUMOS NANO appear bright and brilliant. This is because the mini projector is equipped with premium DLP Tech with 1,500 lumens. What this means, in layman terms, is that the colours are vivid against dark or white walls, instead of grainy or washed out.

Not convinced? Here’s a closer look:

I can’t believe this colour is coming out of a projector, not a monitor or TV! Technology is crazy, guys. We can now have a treasure trove of entertainment at our fingertips.

Not only that, you can connect your smartphone (yes, both iPhone and Android) to LUMOS NANO using the inbuilt Air Screen app to mirror your phone. Scrolling TikTok or playing mobile games have never been easier!

What’s more, the LUMOS NANO comes with a powerful built-in Dolby Audio speaker so you can use it as a portable speaker. I’m getting excited just imagining all the possibilities! Whether you’re partying at the beach or chilling in your room, LUMOS NANO is definitely your best travel companion.

On to what you can expect with your purchase of LUMOS NANOS.

Each LUMOS NANO purchase comes with:

  • HDMI to HDMI cable, so you can connect your laptop to the projector too
  • Mini tripod to perch your mini projector on
  • Charging cable

On the top of LUMOS NANOS, you have a touchpad control that lets you move across the projector screen seamlessly like a cursor, home button, volume control among other commands.

On the sides, we have the power button, audio jack, USB, charging and HDMI port, making LUMOS NANO compatible with most devices. You can even connect it with your Nintendo Switch or PlayStation to game!

I can’t rave enough about the portability of LUMOS NANO. Even if you’re not a frequent traveller, you can still certainly benefit from a compact and lightweight projector – it’s an amazingly efficient use of space, especially considering our small flats in Singapore.

I only wish that the LUMOS NANO comes with a pouch so I can easily bring it around without worrying about damaging its lenses. The fact that my only complaint is unrelated to its functionality speaks volumes about my love for LUMOS NANO.

LUMOS NANO costs $599 with a one-year warranty.
