8Crabs seafood zi char delivery Singapore review

November 04, 2020

8Crabs Seafood Restaurant reached out to me just as my mom complained that we haven't had zi char in a long while. Eating zi char every weekend used to be a custom for my family, and I believe most Chinese Singaporeans are familiar with this practice as well. With food delivery being all the rage now, naturally, 8Crabs Seafood Restaurant hopped on the bandwagon, and is offering up to one-hour express delivery.

For a gathering of four, I ordered
  • Award-Winning Salted Egg Crab - Extra Large (1pc): $88.00
  • Sweet and Sour Pork (Small): $12.00
  • Butter Battered Calamari (Small): $14.00
  • Black Pepper Beef (Small): $16.00

My mom and I are basic Singaporeans who love crab and salted egg, so this combination was definitely appealing to us. The crab was soft and fresh, and 8Crabs Seafood Restaurant was generous with their salted egg sauce. Mhmm, it was absolutely delightful.

According to 8Crabs Seafood Restaurant, they are the only company in Singapore that uses grade AAA premium Sri Lankan sourced wild crabs, which helps them ensure that our crabs are meatier, tastier, bigger, and less "watery".

To ensure its freshness, these crabs are caught, flown, prepared and delivered to customers within 12 hours.

Sweet and Sour Pork is a comfort dish that never goes wrong, and 8Crabs Seafood Restaurant perfected it with sweet, tangy sauce coupled with tender pork. The meat wasn't as crispy as I would've liked it to be, but that is to be expected of dishes delivered to your doorstep.

We felt that 8Crabs Seafood Restaurant' Butter Battered Calamari was a miss, because the dish lost its crisp and tasted tough even after we tried putting it into the oven. Again, it was probably due to condensation from delivering the dish, as seen in the image above.

I appreciate that 8Crabs Seafood Restaurant took the effort to minimise that by poking large holes in the lid, although their efforts were, unfortunately, futile.

I can definitely see the potential of this dish though — the fried calamari might taste best when eaten fresh.

Lastly, some Black Pepper Beef to end off our meal. Every piece of beef was sliced thinly, stir-fried then coated in fragrant sauce with a tinge of black pepper. 8Crabs Seafood Restaurant was generous with their portions as well; the small serving meant for two to three was actually enough for our table of four.

Overall, I would definitely visit 8Crabs Seafood Restaurant again, especially if I require urgent delivery. Here's the cost of their delivery:
  • Express one-hour delivery: $18 per order (express delivery fees will be waived if the delivery is late; one hour excludes the 15-minutes needed to process the order)
  • Same-day delivery or advance order: $8 per order; free if your delivery exceeds $120
