巨蛋旅店 Hotel R14 Review (Kaohsiung Accommodation)
May 27, 2017During my recent holiday to Kaohsiung with Joanna (yes my third time travelling to Taiwan in half a year!), we stayed at Hotel R14 Kaohsiung. We were lucky to chance upon this hotel, aptly named after the train station it's located at, because it was so convenient! For one, we never had to remember what station was our hotel located at — R14 is the number of Kaohsiung Arena Station, on the red line, and Hotel R14 Kaohsiung was right across the road of Kaohsiung Areana Station.
We were initially worried about locating Hotel R14 Kaohsiung since neither of us have travelled to Kaohsiung before, but our worries were completely unfounded. When you exited from Kaohsiung Areana Station Exit 2, you'll spot a playground and Hotel R14 Kaohsiung is opposite the playground, across a road.
Because we landed at 10am, we had plenty of time to spare before the hotel's check-in time of 3pm but the hotel staff's impeccable hospitality warmed our hearts from the very beginning of our trip. From taking care of our luggage before check in to guiding us to the toilets (so we vain girls can apply our make up), the staff of Hotel R14 Kaohsiung went out of their way making sure we had everything we need for a pleasant stay.
After a day of exploring Kaohsiung, we finally returned to Hotel R14 Kaohsiung to check in to our Tree Sea Family room that comes with two queen size beds. I love that their pillows are anti-bacterial and anti-mite because hygiene is a huge deciding factor when I travel!
When we entered our room, I was blown awed by... Hotel R14 Kaohsiung's toilet. Pardon me for sounding like an old lady, I was blown away by Hotel R14 Kaohsiung's high tech toilet bowl with smart washlet (the kind that is usually found in Japan).
From anti-smell technology to warm seat cover perfect for winter — there was absolutely nothing more I need. My favourite function has still got to be the bidet function, adjustable right down to water temperature and water pressure Like what I told Joanna, I'd find it hard to adapt to peasant toilets again in Singapore.
The hotel staff replenished our toiletries daily, even for items like combs |
While the toilet completely floored me, Joanna was awed by the scene that greeted her when she drew the curtains. Located on the tenth floor, our room in Hotel R14 Kaohsiung looks out to the streets of Kaohsiung. The huge window view that overlooks McDonald's — a staple in every country — and the bustling streets of Kaohsiung was an amazing sight to fall asleep to every night.
Not to mention, the absolutely soft duvet sheets (which were very insta-worthy #justsaying) and variety of pillows for us to pick from!
Much to our pleasant surprise, we didn't even have to hunt for a supper place near our hotel — Hotel R14 Kaohsiung was located conveniently within the vicinity of Rueifeng Night Market! We ended up walking to Rueifeng Night Market the first two nights we were in Kaohsiung nights. Talk about being enthusiastic!
Of course, the best thing about staying in hotels is the hospitality provided. Even when we return to Hotel R14 Kaohsiung late after clubbing or exploring Taiwan's night markets, there's always a team of them at the front counter, greeting us as we walked in or out. Despite it being our first time in Kaohsiung, the reliable staff made us feel safe and right at home.

Hotel R14 Kaohsiung's staff also had an unassailable knowledge of Kaohsiung, and they could readily tell us which KTV is the better choice for two girls or recommend us a good massage parlour. Compared to Airbnb — the cheaper alternative — a hotel's service is definitely more personable. From scissors to luggage weighing scales, Hotel R14 Kaohsiung even had everything that I forgot to pack into my emergency travel stash!
Hotel R14 Kaohsiung serves breakfast till 11am daily. We were spoilt by the choices available during extensive breakfast buffet! Hotel R14 Kaohsiung provided western choices like salad and cereal, or Taiwanese breakfast like dumplings and mantous.
I had such a great time in Kaohsiung, thanks to Hotel R14 and their team of readily available staff! Thank you for having us, Hotel R14 :)
